Roles in transitions
Flatland’s mission statement is “Drawing a better world together“. Our visual consultant Lotte de Wolde combined her personal interest in systems thinking and transitions with this mission and attended the Transition Maker Training of DRIFT, SustainableMotion and Squarewise. This was no ordinary training, but a true adventure in which participants immersed themselves in the complexity of transitions and also gained insight into their own role and the impact they can make.
“Roles within transitions” was one of the visual models used during the training.
You can find out which role you fulfil by asking yourself what you are good at and what you are passionate about. Lotte recognised herself and Flatland as the connector: bringing people together by making relevant knowledge visual and accessible and creating a common image. As a result, she also better understood the roles our customers fulfil.
She summarised these valuable insights visually in a drawing that was picked up by Wouter van Noort, a journalist from the NRC. He shared this on LinkedIn and soon hundreds of responses poured in from people who recognised themselves in the picture and also want to use this for their own work. The power of visualisation is incredibly valuable, especially in this time of many changes, to get a better grip on a transition and share it with a wide audience.
Currently, Lotte and other colleagues are busy making working with transitions more concrete. Internal and external sessions will follow.
