At Flatland, we have a mission: “Drawing a better world together”. Our visual strategist, Janita van Ginneken, has a deep passion for making that a reality, and in particular for leadership development. Over the years, she has developed into an undisputed expert on organisational development and leadership.

Janita combined her knowledge in a valuable visualisation that went viral on LinkedIn: “I wanted to make an overview of my collected reflection models and interventions for (team) leaders. Over the years, I have collected a lot of valuable tools and techniques, through colleagues, partners, clients, and training courses such as Tachles and Insight. I have intuitively ordered them by upper and lower stream. The overview may not be complete or perfect, but certainly good enough to share!”

Why visualisation?

Did you know that visual information is processed by the brain 60,000 times faster than text? Moreover, it is easier to remember and share. Images help us see the bigger picture and often reveal blind spots-aspects we unconsciously avoid but which actually offer room for growth.

Janita: “For me, drawing helps externalise experiences so that I can look at them with distance. It allows me to see connections and patterns that are sometimes chaos in my mind. Try it, even if it’s a simple mind map with words and arrows. I find that when I want to change, it helps to see it in front of me. Images help enormously in this regard. The trick is to turn the abstraction of the model into concrete behaviour, so that I can actually take steps
