Visual thinking at water company PWN

Visual thinking is part of water company PWN's innovation programme. We trained teams to think more creatively and innovatively.

The application

PWN, the water company of North Holland, has the ambition to be the most innovative water company in the Netherlands. In the Innovation Lab, they not only work on their own innovation skills, but are focused on improving technological innovations across the region.

The challenge is to continuously train employees in new ways of working and improve cooperation between different disciplines. Visual Thinking and Working forms an integral part of this.

The solution

To improve collaboration between different disciplines and experts, we introduced an initial group of PWN employees to Visual Thinking in 2017. Since then, more than 150 employees have been trained in the innovation programme. They have mastered the basics of visualising and drawing to be able to structure and present their own ideas and thoughts to others. In visual facilitation training, we learn to facilitate groups visually using a marker and flipchart or to use visual working forms to work better together.

Learning activities:

  • Basic training
  • Visual presentation
  • Visual facilitation

Result

Today, visual working is a regular part of innovative activities and make-a-thons organised by PWN. The trained employees are ambassadors of visual thinking and confidently use this new way of working to collaborate faster in their teams.
