Visualisations Global Drinking Water for TU Delft

The Global Drinking Water programme supports a wide range of research projects focused on water supply.
Through drawings and visualisations, we make complex issues and research outcomes clear and concrete.

Working with Flatland

TU Delft’s Waterlab combines scientific research with practical field research in developing countries. This approach accelerates innovation and strengthens local engagement and acceptance among end users. To clarify steps and results – for both researchers and stakeholders – we are regularly involved in creating visualisations and visual story maps.

Online conference: Access to Drinking Water

Investing in technology and infrastructure for safe drinking water can drive tremendous progress. That’s why more than 100 participants from around the world joined the online conference Access to Drinking Water: Co-creation in Africa #SDG — from Pakistan to Mozambique and from Sweden to Bangladesh.

During the conference, various research projects were shared and discussed. The presentations and discussions were visualised live throughout the event.
Not only does this create a clear and engaging record of the conference, but live drawing during online meetings — large or small — also brings greater focus and clarity.

Pathways to a sustainable water future in deltas

TU Delft | Global Initiative also organised a conference on sustainable water supplies in delta regions and we made a visualisation of all the presentations and discussions. Scientists presented various studies within the theme ‘Pathways to a sustainable water future in deltas’.

12 facts about COVID-19 virus in water

We also created a visual about (drinking) water and the COVID-19 crisis. As the virus reached communities worldwide — including rural areas — many questions arose about how COVID-19 relates to water. Is it still safe to use untreated water? Could the virus be present in tap water or rivers? And what is the best way to protect yourself against COVID-19?

To answer these questions, TU Delft | Global Drinking Water collaborated with us to create a user-friendly visual overview of 12 facts about the COVID-19 virus in water.
The illustration highlights the importance of access to water and hygiene during the pandemic, as well as the behavioural changes rural communities can make to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. A visual makes that information clear and accessible.

Symposium and Best Paper Award

To mark International World Water Day 2019, the first edition of the TU Delft | Global Drinking Water Best Paper Award was organised — an annual recognition for researchers contributing to SDG 6.1: achieving universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all. With this award, the Global Drinking Water programme aims to stimulate research on this crucial topic.

We supported the symposium with live visualisations, enabling all research outcomes to be shared clearly and concisely. We summarised the various presentations and the panel discussion in six drawings.
